What Not to Order in a Restaurant

You invited your partner, family, or friends for a lovely night out in a restaurant. Everything should be perfect, and that includes food. Apart from choosing the right meals, you should also know which food to avoid. Here is what you shouldn’t order in a restaurant!

Bread Basket

The bread looks delicious, and we do not doubt that it is fresh. The only problem is that your basket might have spent time at the table behind you. More often than not, that also means several buns also visited multiple tables before they reached yours. It is rare that the restaurants throw away uneaten bread, and most of them rather fill the basket for the next customer.

Specials

Although some specials are worth trying, many of them are a way to make you spend a few dollars more for no good reason. Make sure to get a clear explanation of the specials. If a special is merely a fancy name for a simple fried chicken, why not going with that actual dish and saving money? Truth to be told, some restaurants invest a lot of effort in securing their specials are high value for money. Use your common sense here and estimate whether ordering the special is worth it.

Oysters

Unless you are in a premium restaurant, avoid consuming oysters. These can come from suspicious sources, and might not be fresh. Additionally, the restaurant needs to store them properly. If you eat unpreserved raw oysters, nausea is almost guaranteed. Ask the waiter how they get their oysters, or stay safe and avoid them altogether.

Fish at the Beginning of the Week

Most restaurants stock up on fish for the weekend since that is when they expect most guests. By the time Monday comes, that means there have been at least three days from the last fish order. That means the least chance for the fish to be fresh is Monday. If you want to eat delicious fish, head to your preferred restaurant on Friday or Saturday.

Don’t Get Your Steak Well-Done

Here is the thing – chefs don’t treat a steak well-done as a worthy order. That is why most of them will use the least beautiful cuts for those requests. That means you can get a tough and thin piece of meat cooked this way. Even if you are used to eating it well-done, give the chef a chance and get your steak prepared differently. That could motivate the chef to exceed your expectations, and you’ll end up with a delicious meal.
